I'm looking for a book I read 25 years ago, but have forgotten the title of. It is a novel about a World War II era adventurer, spy and double-agent who is also an extraordinary chef. He is also irresistable to the opposite sex. Critical junctures in the book involve the preparation of a gourmet dish, the recipes of which are included in the text. |

Dear Ntrader, The book you?re looking for is It can't always be caviar [under-titled: The fabulously daring adventures and exquisite cooking recipes of the involuntary secret agent Thomas Lieven] , or: "The Monte Cristo Cover-Up" (alternate title) by the Austrian writer Johannes Mario Simmel. I remember reading it more than once, a wonderful book. The original title is "Es Muss Nicht Immer Kaviar Sein" (if you happen to read German). Amazon search reveals that it is pretty hard to get, but you might get lucky )I also urge you to look for it in other sources, for example http://www.abebooks.com): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006BMNU8/104-3348404-0195923?v=glance&n=283155 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AOE3I6/qid=1149534258/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-3348404-0195923?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any clarifications on this answer before you rate it. Search strategy: it was all in my head. |

No, as I recall it is not autobiographical. I can't remember if it's told in the first person. |
