I need exact information regarding the rise and fall of each of these 
programs: "Gooey", "Icq-surf" and "Odigo". All are similar in their
idea - to allow chats on web pages visited by same users.
For a head start I found this:

and Wikipedia mentions all 3 were at one time or another shut down.

My question is - why? 
Please be as specific as possible and show as many reliable sources.
Also if there are any similar programs that were running online or are
currently running- please mention them as well.
The more the better.
