Question ID: 726934
Our company website creates a log of zip codes when a customer enters
one that is not in our coverage area. We would like to be able to use
this data to offer our services in certain areas where demand is
greatest. Is there a single peice of software that can import either a
text, excel, csv file to garner information from our lists?

We are looking for frequency and geographic analysis. Basically we
need a program that can show us a map of our zip codes in an organized
geographically correct GUI. So if we have 200 Zip codes in california
we will be able to see where in California we should be marketing to
and what zip codes are most frequently used. Does that make sense?

The problem with excel is that it wont generate a MAP. We want to be
able to view these results on a MAP not on a pie chart.

I'm not certain what information you're looking to find. Your question
states that it gathers zip codes where you are not offering service,
but fails to mention what type of information you'll looking to get
with those zip codes.

Microsoft Excel will import all the file types you mention and by
using sort and filter inside that software, you could filter your
results.

Basically, please clarify your question. Thank you.

Get Spotfire...it is great for visualizing any type of data, and easy
to use. Here's a little blurb I pulled from their website:
Spotfire DecisionSite, the company's visual data analysis application,
offers an interactive, visual approach to data analysis that empowers
individuals to quickly and easily see trends, patterns, outliers and
unanticipated relationships in data. In environments where people are
overwhelmed with data from many sources, Spotfire business analytics
puts it all before their eyes with intuitive tools to view, manipulate
and interact with that data and quickly see the information inside it.

I'm not sure how to make this clearer but I'll try.

Scenario: A customer logs into our site and enters their zip code. The
zip code is not found in our coverage database so it get's logged into
a text file. We want to take the text file full of zip codes and
analize the data in a graphical view. So if we have say 100 zip codes
in California then we need it to tell us that. Likewise we want to
know if the log has the same zip code listed 50 times. This would help
us in marketing to the areas that these people are coming from.

If you are using Excel 2000 you can use the map tool for this. They
droped it in later versions unfortunetely.
