webex is slow and bogs down my computer. in addition it doesn't play very nicely with firefox. i'm looking for a light weight desktop/application sharing tool to assist me during days i'm telecommuting and want to work on a doc/app with someone. ultravnc looks too heavy (don't want to deal with setting up a server). gotomypc doesn't look that much better than webex. seems like there aren't a lot of options, less than i would think... frustrated. need help. | |

I'm not a big fan of WebEx for that functionality as well. Suprisingly I found MSN 7.5 does a very good job doing application sharing. A most importantly, it's free. However, it's not the most robust application, just simple and effective. To get it to work, you will need to download the latest version of MSN (do not download any beta software). Sign up an account, have the person you want to connect to, do the same. From both of you add the person to your Contact lists. You will only have to do all that for the initial setup. From there you can open the contact, click activites, then click Application Sharing. If you are looking for a more robust solution I have co-workers who use this application very succesfully - http://www.avecomm.com/ProductsandTechnology/Features/AppShare/ Regards, Mike |
