I'd like to create some board games for use on a website. However, I
know that I'd be in trouble if I made a monopoly game or any other
game that's not in the public domain.

So, does anyone have a list of board games that are in the public
domain? I know that checkers and chess are public domain since they're
ancient. What other ones are there?

Take a look at this list of public domain board games:

and let me know if these are the sorts of things you have in mind.

"Snakes and Ladders" and "Backgammon" might be okay.
