Dear cita82-ga; Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. According to ?Driving Today? Managing Editor, Jack R. Nerad, who has studied the automobile industry and driving trends and written numerous articles on the subject for decades: ?There are approximately 230 million passenger cars in the United States (140 million cars, 28 million SUVs, 38 million pick-ups, and 18 million vans and minivans)?? http://www.drivingtoday.com/partner/content/antiquecar/2005-01-10/feature_cut_gasoline.html In 1999 Carol M. Browner, then Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, predicted that by 2010 there would be as many as 270 million cars in the US. If current trends continue that 1999 prediction now appears to be right on the money.
