I want to setup a wireless network covering a whole city. I want to
know:
1. companies that provide and setup such networks if we
contract the whole job out. 
2. kind/type of equipment is required (difference,
approx prices, and range of wireless equipment) - best and price
conscious "good" choices  I also want to know the best. not model
numbers (but that would be nice), just the speific type of equipment -
servers, and wireless equipment.
3. what ready made hotsopt software for multiple locations
4. internet requirements (bandwidth speed of line)

This information will be used to make a job posting online, to
understand the overall concept, guage the scope of my curiosity...

and the technology you are talking about is wimax .. networking all over the city 
before giving you an answer i would like to know a few technical
details about your city and kind of isp licenses being provided by
your governemtna nd spectrum bandwdith availibility
