I would like to know the prices of tickets to The Lion King at the
Pantages. Also, where to stay.(Needs: 1)Kid friendly 2)Nice, with
"suites" (i.e: kitchenette, adjoining rooms, etc.) 3) Not a lot of
money, possibly discounts. 4) Close to the theater.) Am I asking
enough? I live in Santa Barbara and will be driving, I don't want to
be anywhere near LAX. Thank you for your help.

Hi ShMom,

Sounds like a great show. You didn't say when you wanted to
come. And if it would be during the week or on weekends, so...
Here's what I've found for you.

The ticket prices at the Pantages vary by day,
time of day, and seating. You can find the prices
for your choice of tickets at this Ticketmaster address:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/803723
The prices range from $15.00 to $125.00

I've been hearing radio commercials that say the show
will be leaving the Pantages on December 31st. (I suspect
they mean that's the last performance.)

You never have to go as far south as LAX. There is lodging nearby:

The Orchid Suites has prices starting at $59
1753 N Orchid Avenue, Hollywood, CA
http://www.san-diego-ca-hotels.com/hollywood/hollywood-orchid-suites.htm

Comfort Inn & Suites
2010 N. Highland Avenue
Hollywood, CA, US (323) 874-4300
Rates start in the low 70's (There's no link directly to that page)
http://comfortinns.com/

Le Parc Suites is more expensive, with suites starting around $175 per night
http://leparcsuites.com/resdefault.htm
(If you were to buy and Entertainment 2002 book, you could get up to 50% off
the rack room rates - http://www.entertainment.com/index.cfm -
call the hotel first to make sure.) Good value, large suites,
good neighborhood. (Close to Hollywood Blvd.
for the kids. Right off of Melrose for you.)

The Grafton on Sunset also has suites - rooms for 4 start at $139.
It is also in the Entertainment 2002 book for up to 50% off the rack room rates.
http://graftononsunset.com/rooms.html
(a spa for you after all that walking around?)

Wyndham's Summerfield Suites start at around $130. (also Entertainment 2002)
1000 Westmount Drive 310-657-7400
West Hollywood, CA 90069

All of these are in the immediate area of the Pantages.
You can see a great deal of L.A., slide over the hill to
Universal Studios and City Walk, hit the Miracle Mile
and downtown L.A. from these locations within minutes,
when there's no traffic. And in about ½-1 hour in traffic.
(sorry, that's life in LA)

I didn't find you hotels directly on Hollywood Blvd.
You don't want to be staying there, especially with kids,
unless it's one of the more expensive hotels.

Remember to ask for AAA discounts if you don't use the Entertainment book.

Incidentally, except for the Pantages Theater, that Entertainment Book
will give you discounts on everything else on your trip - from McDonalds,
to the Wax Museum, to miniature golf, to the movies.

Have a great time!

Dear taxmama-ga,
You do that kind of work too?
Thank you so much for your help. You will rate high.
Re: the Entertainment books, are you talking about the ones the kids
sell at school to raise money? Or do you sell them? They sound like a
good deal.
If it makes any difference or you can further suggest options, here is
a little more info:
We live in Santa Barbara, I used to live in LA (both valleys)a long
time ago (28 years ago)!!!! I was thinking that my girlfriend and her
son, and me and my two sons might get away for a relaxing (read:hotel)
time and see the Lion King. I saw the commercials about it being
cheap(er) right now.
We would have to go on a weekend (school, work). I love your
suggestions Re: hotels so far.
I am recently divorced, and my husband did all this stuff. Please
forgive me for being so naive.
Again, thank you for your help. If you can think of anything else,
please let me know.

Want to spend time in hotel. Don't want to "sightsee" per se, unless
it's great. Would need one suite for me and my kids and (if
possible)an adjoining room for my friend and her son (double).
Depending on prices (show and hotel) we could go to anyone and sit
anywhere! The kids have never seen a production before (excluding
elementary school:)). They all love the Lion King so I thought it
would be fun if it's affordable.
I've taken enough of your time. Hope to hear from you soon.
PS Want to go to the show with us after tax season?

Hi ShMom,

Thank you so much for the kind words. And the invitation.
[blush] That is sweet. But, under Google rules, we're
not allowed to meet. Sounds like you and your girlfriend
will have a wonderful time.

No, I'm not a travel agency, so I can't book your rooms.

And Yes, the Entertainment book is the one the kids sell
in schools. Check with the school to see if you can get one
quickly. Otherwise, if you order it online, you'll get it in
a few days.

If you don't want to use it for sightseeing and events, just get
your local book. It will still give you all the hotel discounts.
And you'll be able to use it for your own area to get movie tickets,
dinners out, etc.

If you're going to hang around at the hotel, see if you can get a
good rate at Le Parc - heated pool, tennis, whirlpool, restaurant,
free limo service in the area (Ok, I do want to come ;~) )
http://leparcsuites.com/amen.html

Often, I've found, weekends are cheaper at business hotels.

And here's a tip that has consistently worked for us.
We travel the week AFTER Thanksgiving, all the hotels
are practically empty and their rates tend to be discounted.

Once you get your hands on the Entertainment book, you won't
need a travel agent. Just call the toll-free number for the
hotels. If you really want a travel agent, call AAA in your
area. They are SO good.

Have a great trip!
