How many home offices exist in the United States and what is the
growth trend? This could come in the form of something like: There are
xx households or homes and x% of them have home offices and the # of
home offices is growing at x% a year. These offices should be
"dedicated" spaces. In other words, I'm not as interested in someone
that has a desk with a computer on it that sits in the recreation
room. I'd like it to be a dedicated, separate home office space.

Dear Rpoel,

In 2005, there were 34.9 million home-office households and the
number of home-office households is expected to rise... at a faster
rate than the growth rate for households in general.

Excerpt:

?According to the IDC, a provider of technology intelligence, market
data and industry analysis, almost one in three households in America
have some form of home office. ?In 2005, there were 34.9 million
home-office households,? said Merle Sandler, senior research analyst
for the SMB and home-office programs. ?The number of home-office
households is expected to rise... at a faster rate than the growth
rate for households in general.? Home-office households include
income-generating home offices that IT independents use on a part-time
or a full-time basis.?
