Hello Waleedy81,
Oops, my mistake. I posted the answer as a request for clarification.
Here it is in the right section.
There are several sites that describe motherboards and what go onto
them. For example:
http://www.hwupgrade.com/motherboard/motherboard.html
has a good summary of the major components of a motherboard as well as
describing the differences (with pictures) of a few major PC
motherboard styles. Though in brief, a motherboard will have...
- a clock and timers
- one or more CPU's
- memory
- chips to coordinate operations (interrupts, I/O)
- host / bridge interface chips
- interfaces to other devices (e.g., disk, display, serial, parallel)
- bus slots
- connections for the power supply
Please note that many systems have a different set up. An explanation
about why you might built a system without a motherboard is at:
http://www.itox.com/pages/news/MB-or-PB-web.cfm
which discusses the advantages of other solutions (e.g., passive rack
w/ single board computers).
For pricing, just about any business site will provide information
about the products they sell. At
http://www.jncs.com/fpages/mb-tyan.htm
there are descriptions and prices listed for Tyan motherboards. Using
an example from that site, you can buy an ATX motherboard that can
support two Athlon processors, has 760/762 host bridge chip set, no
ISA card slots, 6 PCI slots, and an AGP slot, 4 memory slots, 2 USB
connectors, no VGA, no sound, supports IDE disks and is about $200.
If there is more that you need, try searching with phrases such as
motherboard characteristics
and add phrases for the specific item you want described. (or make a
clarification request).
