I would recomend using Norton instead, which can now be obtained free
as a part of Google Pack (pack.google.com) allong with an excellent
spyware scanner (Ad-aware SE Personal).

The good is that it does come in Google Pack. However, there are
better alternatives, in my opinion.

My personal favorites are:
1. NOD32 http://www.eset.com/
Review: http://antivirus.about.com/cs/softwarereviews/gr/nod32v2.htm

2. F-Prot
Review: http://antivirus.about.com/cs/softwarereviews/gr/aaprfpwin.htm
NOTE: F-Prot has been around since DOS

3. AntiVir http://www.f-prot.com
This is the only one on my top 3 that is free. Its not on the top of
the list, but its a really decent scanner that costs nothing.

Other ones I recommend are Avast (http://www.avast.com/), Kaspersky
(http://www.kaspersky.com/) which probably wins hands down in
detection rates, and Bit Defender (http://www.bitdefender.com/).

Panda AntiVirus (http://www.pandasoftware.com/) is also fairly good.
Actually, anything that comes from Trend Micro you can say is a fairly
safe bet.

I'd try to stay away from AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) and Mcafee
(http://www.mcafee.com/). I've tried them several times over the years
in various computers and they've given me more problems than help.
However, many may disagree.

In truth, it all comes down to personal preference. Hope this helps some.

Anti Virus software-s will works against simple viruses, but if you
want a safer networking, you may use some programs agains special
viruses. Use this escan, if you want, but I think íou have to use
programs against spyware and adware. The best programs are here:
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1
and
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1

or simple download the Google Pack:
pack.google.com/
with all neccesary programs.
