Question ID: 729150
I want to know about any banking relationships between BART (Bay Area
Rapid Transit District) aand Union Bank UB.

Examples:
Payroll
Deposits
Loans
Retirement
401K
Any other banking- business relationships

I know that a former Union Bank vice-president, Lynette Sweeny, is
now on the BART Board of Directors so don't bother telling me that
fact.

When I say a proven relationship, there must be a current web page
with URL provided to verify the claimed relationship. If no URL,
then some other convincing proof.

smtm-ga,

Yow! It's hard to believe how little of a connection turns up between
the two...almost as if they're avoiding one another.

There are plenty of companies that have both BART and UB as clients,
and the two often show up at the same conferences, or helping out the
same charity.

But as to a direct financial relationship...nada!

Perhaps if you told us about your interest in this particular
connection, it would spur some additional thoughts about where to
research.

Thanks,

U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Hall Patel is a judge of the
Northern District of Calilfornia

Her husband, Megan Patel, is the Executive Vice President Union Bank.

Does Mr. Patel's role at Union Bank have any impact on Judge Patel
being biased for BART

NOTE:: I am aware that Megan Patel sold Union Bank stock in 2004

I only see three cases on record where Judge Patel was involved with
BART in any way (there may be others, but only three showed up in the
databases I searched).

Two of the cases were favorable to BART, while the third didn't seem
to directly affect BART one way or the other.

The Judge also has a 1990's ruling on file that goes against the
defendant in the case, Union Bank.

I can find no information suggesting a connection between Union Bank
and BART, or any influence on the decisions of Judge Patel.

Does that help at all?

No I am aware of both cases.

There must be a way to find out who BART banks with.

Who BART has loans with?

Where BART deposits it revenue.

They are a public entity.

Quite possibly, we can find information about who BART banks with.

However, this is not what you asked. You originally wanted to know
specifically about BART and Union Bank, thus, that is where I focused
my research.

Please let me know if you've changed the paramaters of your question,
and if so, what sort of information you're looking for.

Thanks,

I am only focused on BART relationships with Union Bank and any of its
subsidiaries.

NOT every Bank BART does business with. Just Union Bank and BART business.

Union Bank has many subsidiary corporations.

Also, I would also be interested in Calletus relationships with BART.

One of the Union Bank Directors is also on the Board of Calletus.

So, if Calletus is doing business with BART, I would be interested in
BART and CALLETUS.

smtm-ga,

In the end, I got it straight from the horse's mouth.

I asked the financial services department at BART about their
relationships (if any) with Union Bank and subsidiaries.

Here is their reply:

==========

Union Bank is currently our custodial bank providing safekeeping services
for the District.

Roberta Collier
Assistant Treasurer
San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District

I've no reason to doubt the above, especially given the absence of any
information to the contrary, even after an extensive search of the
internet, newspaper, and legal databases.

Let me know if there's anything else you need beyond this.

Cheers,

pafalafa-ga

smtm-ga,

Let me offer the a few pieces of information in the hopes of giving
you the best options available:

--It is against the rules of Google Answers for customers and
researchers to have any direct contact, such as emails and faxes. All
communications are handled right here, in these text boxes.

--The postings at Google Answers are a permanent public record of our
dialogue. The information I provided in my answer to you is available
for anyone to see, at the link for this question, which is:

--BART is a governmental operation and, as such, is more inclined
towards transparency of information that private companies. I emailed
BART, and they provided me the information I posted in my answer. I'm
confident that if you were to contact them yourself, they would be
equally forthcoming (and if you prefer a written record, send them a
letter rather than an email).

The contact information is:

Rcollie@bart.gov

or

Roberta Collier
Assistant Treasurer
BART Office of Planning and Budget
300 Lakeside, LKS16
Oakland, CA 94612

That should do the trick, but let me know if there's anything else I
can do for you.

Cheers,

paf
