I am looking for information on the history of Okinawan kobudo. I am
very familiar with the basic history and development of martial arts
on the island, but I am looking for additional resources to help me
fill in the details (this is for a grading essay). Sources as well as
insights would be appreciated.

Here are some web sites I have looked at:

http://www.genbu-kai.com/Kobudo/History.html
http://winstonstableford.com/kob1.html
http://www.wdob.net/mai/weapons/kobudohistory.php
http://kobudo.okinawa.free.fr/history/index.html
I've also read the book Zen Kobudo. Most other weapons book focus on
China and Japan (e.g., sword).

I am familiar with the basic timeline and events (the 36 families in
China, the 1492 reunification of Okinawa, and the 1609 take-over by
Satsuma). I'm am trying to dig deeper into these events, and in
particular in the history from 1600 until 1900. I have a theory that,
contrary to popular myth, Okinawan weapons are not solely 'farm
implements', but were in fact weapons as well.

I'd also be interested in Okinawan Dance. I recently learned that,
like Brazillian Caporeia, dance was used to hide karate moves.
