Hi - The following article lists anaesthetic drugs and combinations useful for a multitude of species. While not going into much detail about xylazine, it does mention that there is a risk of bradycardia and suggests that inhalation anaesthetics may be more appropriate. Does have a dog section. http://www.iacuc.pitt.edu/druglist.pdf A nice page, similar to the above, with more detail on the administration procedure of anaesthetics in a variety of animals. http://www.miami.edu/research/training/Anesthesia.html Also, from the altwebsearch.org site suggested by tehuti-ga, I would recommend the following page which is specific to procedures and anaesthetic doses in the canine model: http://altweb.jhsph.edu/publications/anzccart/dog.htm More on the dangers of xylazine, if improperly used (in cats): http://www.fabcats.org/is50.html An article suggesting an alternative for ketamine/xylazine anaesthesia in dogs (discusses decreased respiratory and cardiac output in the xylazine group): http://www.cpb.ouhsc.edu/ojvr/subscribersojvr/xylazine-ketamine2000/xylazine-ketamine2000.htm The product sheet for a manufacturer of xylazine suggesting the potential side-effects and necessary precautions: http://www.lloydinc.com/llabs/anased20.html Please let me know if you require further information about particular administration techniques, anaesthetics, or had a particular danger of xylazine that you wished me to investigate. synarchy |

It might be worth trying the Altweb pain management database. Although this focuses on analgesia and anesthesia in laboratory animals, given that dogs are used in laboratory studies, some records might be relevant to your need. I know that the compiler took a fairly broad approach. http://www.altwebsearch.org/aadb/aadb_search.cfm (Warning: it can be slow at times) |
