I am looking for a financial web service API that will allow me to lookup 13F and 13D filings for various fund managers. This service should provide historical data (going back at least 3 years), as well as newly filed 13Fs and 13Ds going forward. The actual filing needs to be formatted, so I can programmatically extract the holding and all related information that goes with it, as well as information about the manager, totals, etc... It would be great if this service has alerts that will hit my URL to let me know about the new filings. Price is a factor for me, so I am looking for a reasonably priced service. |

How much programming do you want to do yourself? The SEC Edgar website allows for FTP access and you can write perl scripts to analyze the data. For historical filings I use CDA/Spectrum through Thompson Financial (which is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination). However the more expensive sources contain longer history and pay more attention to cleaning the data so that you don't have to. Regards calebu2-ga |

Thanks. What i am looking for is a clean API access to the actual holdings for the filings. If I would have to analyze and parse out each holding it will take me forever, and not to mention that each manager has a different format, and same manager can change their format from filing to filing. So, the preffered method would be a web service that will send me the new filings and i can iterate through the dataset for the holdings data. How is CDA/Spectrum integrated? Do they have a WS? and how much does it cost? |
