This is for a wedding speech so the more quirky / funny the better and
(obviously) it needs to relate to people the general public should have heard
of!

Unless a world event, things relevant to the UK would be preferable.

Wasn't a huge news day, apparently, especially if the infamous John Wayne 
Bobbit saga didn't quite make headlines in the UK the way it did here.
