I am doing a kids production of Peter Pan and I am looking for some
stock video footage of aerial views of cities and landscapes that I
can use to blue screen the kids in for the flying scene. I found
several places on the web that sell stock video but everything costs a
lot more then I want to spend ($120 - $350 for 10 - 20 seconds). I am
interested in a low cost alternative (<$60.00) per clip.

It's interesting that very often stock footage can turn out more
expensive than just producing new, original footage. It's certainly
true in a case such as yours, in which you want only to access scenes
of real, unremarkable locations, and you want a substantial number of
them.

So, it might be a good idea to look into the cost of hiring a small
aircraft with pilot to fly you over a nearby city. You could shoot
between thirty minutes and an hour of mini-DV very cheaply, and have
plenty of footage to pick from.

Hi !

The website www.freestockfootage.com offers homevideo quality stock
footage. There are some clips of aerial views of landscapes which are
within your price range, and downloadable instantly from the internet
in two different resolutions. Their quality might not be satisfying.

If you plan to make a home video which will not be sold or distributed
in any way, I could also suggest you to get a touristic DVD like this
one :

A SKYVIEW OF THE WORLD
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A85V4M/qid=1149997375/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/002-5149011-3529600?n=130
sold on Amazon for $34.99 and would provide 270 minutes of aerial views.

You would just have to transfer it to Mini-DV by connecting your DVD
player to your Mini-DV Camera.

Of course, you won't be able to show your movie anywhere then in your
house to a non paying audience, or you would have to negociate the
rights with the owner of the DVD that you used.

I hope this could help you !
