There are currently federal laws that prohibit the sale of human
organs. The effect of this law is to make it illegal for someone to
sell their own organs, thus drastically decreasing the supply of human
organs available to those requiring them. I'm wondering if there have
ever been any constitutional challenges to such a law, on some sort of
grounds related to the interference of the law with a sick
individual's right to medical treatment or their right to stay alive
(or some other related right of the sick individual). If so are there
court rulings on the subject, presumably upholding the law?
