I am looking for training or information on repairing/ recovering data from a
physically damaged hard drive. Physical damage would include fire or
water damage, bad electronics, or a head crash.

There are many web sites of companies that will perform data recovery
services, but I am interested in learning how to do the repairs
myself.

I am not looking so much for a link to a site that has a page on
how to do a data recovery, but for training from an instutution that
provides a hands on lab or clean room environment to work on drives.

I believe I can help you with your question. It would help if I new
what region you would prefer the training site to be.

Would video or online training be an option?

Clarification of Question by 24click-ga on 19 May 2006 17:17 PDT
Southern California would be preferable, but for quality lab training,
I am willing to travel.

Video or online training would only be OK if it is the only option and
goes in depth on recovering data from physically damaged drives.

Let me know if you require any more details..Thanks!

Yes it would be good to have information on what country you are in
and city as well.

Hi again 24click-ga!

Sorry about that it seems my last clarification was made at the same
time you answered adiloren-ga's question.

It seems that hard drive recovery is pretty tied up with computer
forensics courses. Would this be ok with you since it will cover
additional topics as well and not just hard drive repair.

Thanks.

Forensics training would be good, however it needs to cover how to
physically repair damaged hard drives.

thanks

Hi again!

You are correct, there doesn't seem to be much out there if you
concentrate in hte US only.

How many have you found suitable on your own searches? I ask since I
might just be duplicating your efforts and thereby waste your money. I
was only able to find 5 good ones.

The other schools out there are in the UK, Canada or in India.

Thanks.

Most of the training I have found has been for general computer
forensics. I am looking for hard drive repair lab training in the US.

Hello 24click-ga,

What information have you found on your own? Your detailed question
seems to indicate that you've done some preliminary research. How long
a course or program do you expect this trainig will be? What kinds of
institutions do you think offer this kind of training, i.e., colleges
/ universities, technical schools, extension programs, etc.? Any
background information you can provide on what you know about the
training you're looking for would be helpful.

Also, what is your current level of expertise? Are you a hardware
engineer or technician who just needs some special training on the
recovery physically / mechanically / electronically damaged hard
drives or are you starting from scratch?

I look forward to your clarification.
