I want to find out in order of priority, what are the good conferences
(and tradeshows) that showcase/detail the retail industry.

I am particularly interested in conferences in China / HK, but would
also like to know about others in other parts of the world.

The topics that might be covered in the conferences/trade_shows would include:

* Everything retail
    - Groceries
    - General Merchandise
    - Supermarket stuff
    - Department store merchandise
    - How stuff is sourced and the logistics
      ... 

* Retail Technology
  - the latest technology available for the retail industry for all 
    aspects of it (from point of sale (POS) to Loyalty Programs)

There is no minimum or maximum limit... i'm hoping for at least a few
... but undoubtedly the results will depend on what is actually on :-)

Unfortunately it does not appear that HK/China have as many confereces
as expected - but i guess that is just the state of the world at the
moment :-)

Are there still permanent expositions of stuff for sale?  Thinking of
the Merchdise Mart in Chicago.

Its not so much about just seeing what is for sale... but also what
people are developing and doing in the industry... the sale part of
course will be there too.
(its like a computer trade show, only for the retail industry)
