My boyfriend and I are going on a round the world trip soon and the
plane will be stopping at a few airports in Chili (santiago is one).
We won't actually be in Chili until March 2007.

What should we see? We don't mind travelling from top to bottom.
Keeping in mind that we prefer natural and ancient sites eg. pyramids,
machu picchu (peru) or grand canyon, Uyuni Salt Flats (bolivia). We
also love animals but are against zoos. Not very interested in
shopping unless it has cultural significance (eg. not city), not at
all interested in clubbing or drinking, not very interested in
architectual sites (unless it's a must see or ancient as said above).
Get us away from the city.

Would also like thoughts on transportation (keeping in mind we want to
get away from the cities) Hire car? Bus?

And prices (not exact just from personal experience) at how much you
think it would cost per day (2 people) for everything (incl cheap
accomodation, food, and travel whether be car or public transport).
Pesos is fine. I am from Australia.

I am not looking for a huge answer what i want is someone who lives in
Chili and can straight away (within minutes) write a list of must sees
from their
experience/knowledge. Someone who knows whether a hire car is a
viable option. And who knows approx what price of living is (eg.
where we are staying in Bolivia the price of living
(accomodation/food) is only US$500 per month for us both. Whereas in
Paris we are looking at atleast $2000-$3000 per month).

Sorry yes I meant chile :) The reason why I only put $5 on this
question was b/c I don't want an extensive answer. I expect this to
take a Chile resident 10 minutes (if even).
eg. what you should see in chili (no links needed just names):
bla bla lake
bla bla flats
bla bla ancient site
getting around: from what i've heard rental cars are fine but
expensive/cheap. Buses are good/bad.
I would expect it to cost approx $$ per day (ball park figure).
That is really as much as I am after. Of course if someone answered
the question in depth I'd have to give a double the listing fee as
tip.

Would you mean Chile? Chili is :
" 1. The pungent fresh or dried fruit of any of several cultivated
varieties of capsicum, used especially as a flavoring in cooking. Also
called chili pepper.
   2. Chili con carne."

It might hurt your eyes if you tried to travel inside a chili.

Paramount37,
May I recommend that you increase the price for your question. The
nature of the data you are requesting seems rather intensive and a lot
compared to your offer of $5. Most researchers would expect much
higher. For now, you might get a few tips here and there in the
comments section (none of which I can give), but the complete good
answer will be elusive.
