I would like to purchase speakers for my laptop. The logitech z 2300
speakers look cool. Can these hook up to a laptop through USB? If not,
how do I connect them? |

This should help:
http://urbansemiotic.com/2006/01/08/logitech-z-2300-21-thx-certified-sound-system-review/
"...the Logitech system uses the headphone jack and it is much better
than the USB port! I was surprised by that fact. Most of the Windows
sound systems now use the headphone-out jack instead of using a USB
port.
I think the use of a Headphone Jack over a USB 2.0 port is won over by
the strange, but advanced, technology of a Headphone Jack!
I was immediately concerned the sound would not be as true or as full
using a headphone jack over a USB port, but I was entirely proved
mistaken: Today, the headphone jack trumps the USB connection for
beautiful sound reproduction!"
Let me know if this answers your question.

Yep! Thanks, rainbow, that answers my question. This is what threw me
off: "We were a bit annoyed by their use of hardwired speaker cables
instead of quick-connect jacks"
I am not enough of a audiophile to know what a 'quick-connect jack'
is. If you can explain that to me, that would be awesome! Thanks
again!

"I am not enough of a audiophile to know what a 'quick-connect jack' is."
I'm not either. :-)
So I'm not exactly sure what a "quick-connect jack" does, but here is
a picture of one:

This review may also be helpful:
"It's true what everyone says about the bass this system gives out.
It's boomin alright! Very powerful. The highs are decent as well.
Unlike the others who have reviewed this product, I use it for my
laptop, which makes it sound like a powerful boombox. The only thing
bad I can say about it is that, because it connects to the headphone
outlet, I can hear the little "grumblings" going in the motherboard
through the speakers when I'm not playing music. It's not really a big
deal for me. I just keep them off when not in use. (something to think
about for those planning on using it for their portable computers)
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase -- good price, and most
importantly, good product FOR the price. Put it this way: I'd buy it
again should the one I have were to be stolen or damaged in a fire."

The 'quick connect jack' you link to doesn't appear to have anything
to do with speakers - I believe they are referring to something
else...?
But, nonetheless, you asked whether I'd like you to 'post this
information as an official answer'. I'm not sure what that means - is
that the process by which the question gets marked as 'answered', and
my payment is taken? If so, by all means, yes! You have satisfactorily
answered my question. Thanks much!
