Perhaps a movie expert can help me out...

I saw a trailer a few months ago for a movie that looked interesting,
but I did not record the name. I'm pretty sure it was a Spanish film,
but I may be mistaken.

The trailer had the "L'amour est un Oiseau Rebelle" song from Carmen
playing in the background. The trailer had shots of a man and a woman
with clever or risque title cards interspersed. It appeared to be
about a man who had either his wife or girlfriend tied up in his
basement against her will, and who was playing some sort of quiz game
or other test with her for her freedom. Sounds horrific, but it was directed in a
very playful way that seemed to be some sort of black comedy.

I remember trying to find the movie on DVD a few months ago but not
succeeding. Unfortunately I don't remember the title. And ideas?

I should clarify, that I think this movie is fairly recent. I saw the
trailer on the DVD of fairly new release foreign movie (which one
precisely slips my mind, but I'll try to remember). So I would say the
movie in question is less than 10 years old for sure, and very likely
less than 5.

Hmmm. I've come across the right answer. Since the question is already
locked it would not be fair to cancel it out from under you. If you
get the answer right, then you deserve the money. If the question
becomes unlocked so that I can canel it, I will reveal the answer.

The film is called "Killing Words" or "Palabras encadenadas" (2003).
