In 1985 Genesis founding member Mike Rutherford released a solo album
under the name "Mike and the Mechanics" This album featured the song
"Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)

The song (an associated video) were aledgedly from the soundtrack to a
Science Fiction Movie about an average American husband/father who
turns out to be an undercover intergalactic resistance fighter. His
children discover this fact.
(This Film Plot is relevant to the question at the bottom)

The video features shots from a movie that support this idea. The
lyrics of the song nearly support this idea.

However:
"Silent Running" is a 1971 film that has nothing to do with this plot concept.
"On Dangerous Ground" is a 1951 thriller. Also nothing to do with the above

There are also shots that exist in the video from "Choke Canyon" a
really horrid film from 1986 that again has nothing to do with the
above.

Google Question: Was there ever a science fiction film in the 1980s
under production, green lit, shelved, etc that used this song and had
the Film Plot as addressed at the top of this posting.
Bonus: If this film ever saw the light of day... is it obtainable?

In the eighties, my best friend was obsessed by Mike & the Mechanics.
According to my friend, this was not a actual movie. It's not uncommon
for music videos to refer to fictive movies that do not exist in the
real world.

Note that "Choke Canyon," the source of some of the shots in the
video, has "On Dangerous Ground" listed as an alternate title in the
Internet Movie Database:

I've heard both unofficially. That the film was produced and shelved
and that the element was added strictly for the video.

No confirmation either way. That's why I'm putting it out here for an
official word if possible.
