Question ID: 732849
I am looking for companies that will manufacture an ice cream product
(approximately 1 ounce, shaped and chocolate coated)for me, using my
label. I want to use their ice cream recipe(s) with an added
ingredient, or have them help me develop my own recipe(s). I am
looking for a company whose focus is the production of ice cream and
ice cream products for other people/companies, not for their own
retail use (I am developing a new product and do not want them to take
my idea and add it to their own line of products). ????

CoPackers sign an agreement not to disclose or copy the recipe

What is a copacker?

?A copacker can process your specialty food products. Contracting with
a copacker rather than manufacturing a product yourself can defray the
cost of setting up and overseeing the production process. If you re
short on capital, and if producing your product requires special
equipment like bottling machinery, safetysealing or packaging
equipment, or industrial kitchen equipment, then you may want to
consider such an arrangement.

Because a copacker usually specializes in a certain type of
production, such as the production of spices or condiments, he is able
to provide an efficient means of production in a controlled
environment. Copackers usually are able to take a recipe and convert
it for largescale production. (And you need not worry about
surrendering your carefully guarded family recipe to him, because he
will sign an agreement not to disclose or copy the recipe.) Many offer
shelf life and other product development support.

Using a copacker can also give you the ability to test a product
before launching into a fullscale production operation. He will offer
you a number of services, including recipe conversion, ingredient
procurement, quality control, regulatory compliance.?

Ask for a confidentiality agreement before discussing details of your
product, recipe, or your marketing oppor-tunities. Do not be offended
if they ask the same.
