I pretty much have the lyrics down, at least as close as I can get
them. The song was recorded for me by a German dj, over in Germany,
around 1977. Lost the cassette index and forgot the names. I do have
it on cassette and I created an mp3 (about 2.78MB, named a12345). It
is over at http://media.putfile.com/a12345 I think it is probably
from early to mid '70's, but I am not sure of that.

And below are the lyrics:

As the life goes on by, I'll be riding it high
with the wind, just a friend
I don't care what they say, gonna live it my way
til the end, to the wind

Cause the mountain will crumble, the forest will fall
people grow older with time
In my personal case, there ain?t no time to waste
cause the life has been a good friend of mine.

Go/gonna live it complete, be it short be it sweet
Time will tell, so what the hell
Gonna to kick off my shoes
won't my life be blue
Have some fun before its done.

Cause the mountain will crumble, the forest will fall
people grow older with time
In my personal case, there ain't no time to waste
cause the life has been a good friend of mine.

Don't let life get you down
have a little fun
one more round

Don't let life don?t let it, get you down, get you down
have a little fun
one more round

Don't let life don?t let it, get you down, get you down
have a little fun
one more round

Don't let life, Whoa, get you down, yeah, yeah, yeah,
have a little fun (Background yeah, yeah, yeah,)
one more round.

The details that you mention suggest a strong possibility that the
song is "Don't Let Life Get You Down" (1976) by Joe Cuddy. Apparently,
it was a moderate hit in Ireland and the UK.

As far as I can tell, there's no way to "verify" this without actually
listening to the record, but if you're willing to accept this, let me
know and I will post it as the official answer. Thanks.
