Regarding Quality and AQLs. Using AQLs based on standards such as
ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 its straightforward to look up the required random
sample size from a certain population in order to measure a certain
quality standard. (based on max number of allowable failures) However
many goods are packed in inner cartons (eg 12 per carton) and outer
cartons (eg 5 inner cartons per outer carton) For a shipment with 3600
pieces packed as above in 60 outer cases where a sample of 60 is
required to be sampled, it would not make sense to A) take 60 pieces
from one outer carton or B) take one piece from each outer carton.
Therefore I have the following question. What is the way to calculate
or look up the optimal method of choosing the number of pieces and
cases to choose the (for example 60) pieces from.
