What kind of malady, deformity, or type of injury (birth or otherwise) causes a condition in which a person's head is permanently turned slightly to one side? That is, if standing in a bodily position to face you squarely, the person's head would be turned a bit to one side and the person would not look at you straight on. To look at you straight on, he would have to turn his body at an angle to yours. To save some trouble, this condition is not torticollis. Torticollis causes a tilting of the head at an angle and not a turning of the head. I am interest in a turning on the axis from crown to spine and not a tilting on the axis from back of skull to nose. The answer to the question is the name of the condition, which I can then look up in order to read about descriptions, causes, and treatments. Thank you, Archae0pteryx |

Hi Tryxie I understand that bones can get displaced and that a Cranial Osteopath can ease them back into place. Worth looking into. Good luck! Bryan |

Thanks, Bryan. Don't worry, this is not on my current list of medical problems. It happens to afflict a character in my story. I just need to know a little more about it before I can make mention of it. The person I knew who had this condition faded out of my life quite a long time ago, so I have noplace to start other than research. (I can certainly try looking under cranial osteopathy. Thank you.) Always lovely to hear from you-- Tryx |

Hi Tryx, If that person you knew could not turn his/her head left to right, and the head was "frozen" in an off-center position, I would assume that this resulted from an accident - broken neck that healed in a stiff position. I once saw a cow in India whose head was definitely and permanently very much askew(ed?). Probably resulting from a riding accident in your story's time, or maybe - if male - he could have fallen from a construction site. Regards, Myo |

Hi Again Tryxie How about this ... The character DID go to a person who was posing as a Cranial Osteopath and the phoney left him with the disability required. Haha ... The Plot thickens! You've now got enough material for a Tryxology. All the Best Bryan |

Hmmm, there seem to be all sorts of possibilities: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/stiff_neck.htm Meningitis seems to come up on lots of sites as a cause, but I expect that it ended fatally rather quickly in medieval times. An injury is easier to explain: http://health.yahoo.com/topic/other/symptoms/article/healthwise/hw97263 |
