I'm trying to determine how many people play video games.  I am
looking for the number of people in North America, Europe and
Australia that own video game consoles and of those people how many
play online.  I'm also interested in the number of PC Gamers there are
in the same regions, and of those how many play online.  Furthermore,
I am interested in the expected growth rate of the sector over the
next few years.

I think I might have the starting point for the section on North
America. At the Entertainment Software Association's website, you can
take a look at research data they have collected for America. This
includes such things as amount of video games sold, best selling
series, average age of gamers, etc.
