Hi there,
I think I have found some resources for you to contact marinas in the
south shore area of Suffolk County, Long Island. Your best bet will
be to call/write these marinas to see if they have slips open and if
they can accomodate your sailboat (some may cater only to powerboats
or to smaller or larger vessels). Great South Bay is a popular place
for people to berth their boats, so it could be difficult to find a
slip, even for next spring (though now is definitely the time to
call).
LongIslandWeb.com Marinas
http://www.longislandweb.com/marinas.html#m4
This has a listing of about 25 marinas on the south shore, with their
phone numbers and basic data about each. About 15 of them are
specifically for Great South Bay, as far as I can tell (the list is a
little vague). The list notes that "key ports here include Patchogue,
Watch Hill, Oakdale, Bay Shore and Lindenhurst."
Great South Bay Watch
http://www.greatsouthbaywatch.com/
This is a nonprofit group that focuses on controlling water pollution
by focusing on holding tank pumpouts for boaters. One of the services
they also provide is a major index of all boating-related companies in
Great South Bay, including marinas by name and location. To get to
the links into the directory you'll have to scroll down the homepage a
little bit (it'll be between the red wagon and the squeezed map).
Northeast Boater's almanac
http://www.boatersalmanac.com/LISouthPages/sayville,_great_south_bay,_islip.htm
This page is specifically for the Sayville, Great South Bay, and Islip
listings. The site also includes images (NOAA navigation charts) with
numbers indicating the location of each marina. Most marinas have
their phone number listed.
I found these using a Google search for the terms "great south bay
boat slips" and "great south bay marinas". Note that such a search
returns a lot of other sites including marinas in the Great Lakes and
the Chesapeake Bay.
Good luck, and may the breeze blow your way!
