Apparently the problem is a difficult one to fix, and we've been told that it's being worked on. |

I have complained, too. I cannot accept that it is a difficult problem to fix. It seems much easier than maintaining "Google Alert". What could be difficult about sending an automatic message to the questioner or Researcher when their user ID is directly linked to the question? |

The Answers FAQ says that new researcher applications will be accepted in the "near future". Perhaps that's the same time period in which the notification will be repaired. perfidious paf |

Like the 'disappearing owl' in the USA - some spectacular cockups in the logging in process - also the famous non posting period, when sequential numbering jumped back These things make me suspect that the Alpha team have been pulled off to work on pastures new. |

Paf, Whether or not that FAQ has recently be changed or not, I bet the mentioning of it here is going to incite a lot of questions. NOTE to any who do ask about that here: Don't include "google" in your question. That puts a lock on it until someone in Califirnia reads it. |

"Apparently the problem is a difficult one to fix, and we've been told that it's being worked on." Hi Ya Pink If that is what your Google Masters are telling, I simply don't buy it. As someone who has done my fair share of programming (both doing new systems, applying enhancements to existing systems and fixing many a "systems bug") I know any programmer worth his/her salt can fix the issues we have seen at Google Answers in the last few months. Given that Google is in a position to hire the best developers in the world, I find it astonishing that these system issues are still lurking. I have recently noticed a "system bug" (which I am sure other people have noticed and which you can simulate for the price of one Buck) - If one registers a question (apparently successfully) and then register a second question when it comes to the point where you can cancel , go back to edit or proceed to payment, one sees the FIRST question not the second one. Now any respectfully competant IT department would resolve that type of issue in one to two days especially with a system that has been relatively stable for over 3 years. Which has got me a bit worried. If the level of support staff on this product is so awful , then maybe the people who run the Google Empire see Google Answers at best a painful annoyance or at worst something to be got rid of. And not supporting the software that drives it (i.e. letting it go to hell) is their not so subtle way of communicating this to the Google GA's and customers that this service may well yes disappear soon. Now perhaps I am getting a bit paranoid and if what I say is NOT true then all the Google Editors need to do is to reassure me privately (they know my e-mail) and do the same for other Ga's and customers who have been complaining. (oh and also fix those stupid bugs) Regards Mongolia |

Not only that: It used to be that when one had posted a comment, then on or after clicking the previous page arrow the site jumped down to display one's comment. Now it just jumps down to the start of the comments. Just a thought: Maybe when the system went down, they reverted to an earlier (maybe prior to start of G-A) version that was not so clever and didn't have the email advice service. Does anyone remember if the FAQs once had a question such as: "How will I know when my question is answered?" that mentioned the email service? They don't now, nor mention the possibility of foregoing emails when one posts a question. But I have forgotten when or where in the process that appeared. |

Hi everyone, The FAQ used to read: The Researcher only partially answered my question. How do I get further clarification? "...The Researcher will be alerted that a clarification has been requested." http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html How will I know when my question has been answered? You will be sent an email that a Researcher has answered your question. http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html Regards, hummer |

Hmmm.... The FAQ states one thing and the users of this service receive something else- despite having made the operators being aware of deficencies. |

Uzzz, I was wonder if someone could sue for misstatement of service, breach of contract or the like (see Terms of Service, below), but I doubt it. would having the service reactivated be worth accepting a posting fee of $1.00? Maybe optional to us but free to Researchers? Any thoughts, anybody? Regards, Myoarin |

Hmmm? When I just clicked back out after posting the above comment, the comment box that appeared was empty instead of showing what I had just posted. ??? See what happens now. |

Hello Hummer (s) We all know now what was up with the demise of the notification service. I will miss our exchanges. This impending death of GA is quite sad. I hope that we can meet again in some other forum. Very best regardzzz Uzzz |
