I need to know if a 'Stacy Bloomer' (or of similar last name...perhaps
Bloomber,Blumberg, etc.) ever played for the NBA (any team) at any
time. I work with Stacy and he claims that he use to play for the NBA
although I cannot remember the team(s) he said. I'm pretty sure his
last name is Bloomer. If I had to guess, the years he would have
played would have had to have been between 1987-1995. I just want to
know if he's full of $#!t or not. Thanks.

I think this is going to be difficult since we need to access a list
of all basketball players who played in the NBA. Furthermore; some
players just had 10 day contracts and may not actually played at all.

kitten_024,

As I could not find a list of all players who have played in the NBA,
I did the next best thing, and expanded my search to the list of all
players who could have played in the NBA.

The vast majority of all NBA players entered through the yearly draft,
an orderly process of selecting the best available players onto NBA
teams. I found a site listing all of the players drafted into the NBA
from 1947 to 2002 at http://nbadraft.net/history.htm From 1999 to
1980, the players with first name "Stacy" or "Stacey" were: Stacey
King from 1989 and Stacey Augmon from 1991, neither of which seems
likely to be the one you were looking for.

There have been players who have overcome the odds and made it into
the NBA despite being overlooked in the draft. These cases deserve
special mention, and are covered in this list of Not Drafted and Late
Draftees site at http://www.unc.edu/~lbrooks2/2draft.html However,
here too our Stacey is not to be found. Thus, I am confident that a
player of the name you have described has not played in the NBA.

However, is it possible that this person said he had played
professional basketball, but not specifically the NBA? The CBA is a
professional minor basketball league in the United States, and there
are many others throughout the world.

The official CBA website is at http://www.cbahoopsonline.com/ but
appears to be in the midst of a relaunch, and has no content at this
time. If you are interested in learning more about the CBA, check out
the Google directory of CBA sites at
