I recently discovered a spyware/virus on my computer named surfsidekick. It is my understanding that it alters the registry in such a way that reinstalls even though I attempt to erase it. I have AOL security center and I am receiving a message (C:\program files\common file\?asks\r?ndll.exe is attempting to access the internet) at least twice everytime I move from website to website. I have attempted with at least 5 different programs to clean it off, but no luck. Help! | |

Symantec has a research about the surfsidekick adware. Boot into safe mode (press F8 before the OS loader kicks in) and follow the steps describes at section 4 in Symantec site. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.surfsidekick.html This should remove the adware from being run at startup. After that, you can try a spyware/adware scanner to remove any "leftovers". Adware is a nice free program from Lavasoft http://www.lavasoftusa.com. |

http://www.spyany.com/program/article_adw_rm_SurfSideKick.html gives removal instructions, though this involves editing the registry yourself which can have risks. It is a good idea to create a system restore point before editing the registry. |
