Question ID: 734664
How do I take professional photographs? The kind that is not
dissimilar to luxury Gucci advertisements in Vogue magazines. The kind
that is taken by Albrecht Gerlacht on www.albrechtgerlach.com or by
Dirk Lambrecht on www.dirklambrechts.com

I am an aspiring photographer. I have the ability to compose and frame
shots to a personally acceptable degree of success. The equipment I
use include a Canon EOS-30D SLR, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, Canon
EF17-40mm f4L USM and I am currently contemplating purchasing a Canon
EF70-200mm f2.8L USM lens. I have a tripod, but not a fancy one. I
have UV filters on my lenses.

I want to know what equipment they used, for both their outdoor and
studio photography. I want to know if I can replicate their style of
work with the equipment I have. The colour photos that they take have
a certain surreal feel to them. The colours seem to be warmer (or
sometimes cooler), they look a little bit like paintings yet have so
much detail. With their black and white photography, especially the
close up shots, I would like to know how they can accentuate all the
details. How they capture even the pores and imperfections in the
skin, each facet of the face striking and obvious.

I want to know how they set up their shots for those that were set up,
I want to know how they capture the outdoor shots where it is not such
a controlled environment. I want to know the camera settings, whether
or not they used filters, or light reflecters. And if so, how were
they used.

I understand that post-processing is a key element in photography
nowadays so I would like to know what they did to create the look of
their photography in terms of Photoshop or other image editing
software. If you can find before and after shots and everything in
between that would be much appreciated.

These are just two photographers and i'm sure many others exist of the
same if not better calibre. However, it is this type or style of
photography/image processing that I would like to learn to achieve.

Thank you in advance
