I am helping someone set up a broadband connection on the abovementioned computer and I would like a detailed guide on how to set up PPPoE in Mac OS 9. The connection is a standard Ethernet LAN with a DHCP host to set up IPs. | |

Hello 000jkd, Thanks for the note - I'll be glad to answer the question properly. About the email problem, I suggest a email message as described at http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html#contactus The support staff may be able to help you. According to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106868 you need to use a third party application to use PPPoE on Mac OS 9 (PPPoE support is included in Mac OS X). Finding those applications is a little problematic - according to http://whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/206151.html (scroll down to "4.4") the Enternet application is not available any more (unless your ISP provides it). MacPoET apparently is still available and described at http://www.finepointnetworks.com/products/winpoet/macpoet.htm but you must contact the company directly to order the product. The alternative is to purchase / install Mac OS X (you can still use classic mode for the OS 9 applications). I found this information by searching with phrases like: pppoe mac os 9 pppoe mac os 9 site:apple.com and by following up with searches for MacPoET pppoe Enternet pppoe to find information specific about these two products. The information about PPPOE support on Mac OS X is mentioned on the first link listed as well (or replace the 9 with X on the search phrases). Good luck with your work. --Maniac |
