I am looking for a book that I loved when I was growing up in the 50s. I haven't seen it since, but I now have three little granddaughters who love books, and I would like to share this with them. The story and illustrations were simple, the colors mostly blues and greens. The main character was a little island girl, brown skin, long hair. I don't even remember the story (very sparse text) but I think of the illustrations very, very often. This was a small book, about the size and length of a Golden Book. Can you help? | |

I am delighted to learn that my guess was correct! "Ukelele and Her New Doll" was a favorite of mine in the early 1950s when I was a little girl. Your description sure brought back some memories. I'll bet your granddaughters will love it. If you'd like to compare prices on used copies of the book, this link should be helpful: AddAll Rare, Used and Out of Print Book Search http://used.addall.com/SuperRare/RefineRare.fcgi?id=060609183839726293 Google Web Search: ukelele doll "golden book" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ukelele+doll+%22golden+book%22 Very best regards, pinkfreud |
