Dear Avril:
The source in Wyoming proved to be a winner. They will cut your
product for you in 24-48 hours and ship to any location and they are
used to dealing with schools.
A&H Abrasives

Phone: 800 831 6066
Fax: 307 237 4122
Customer Service Person: Val
They will cut your product to width. A roll 15.5" x 20 yards of 220
grit (aluminum oxide) paper is priced at $120 less a 10% discount
(applied to any order over $100) (the discount is also given for an
order of any size if a school is ordering the product) The freight on
the roll size is $10.45 to ship to New Hampshire where I am located.
On orders over $500 they pay the freight. You can order any grit above
100 grit for the same price as 220 grit.
The price shown can be apportioned such that a 10 yard roll 15.5" wide
would cost $60. A wider roll can be apportioned the same way.
If you wanted to make each letter out of 15.5" wide and were using 75
cm (about 29.5") for your length and assuming you were going to make
all 26 letters of the alphabet, you would need about 21 yards so you
might wish to buy 30 yards which would cost $162 net plus freight. If
I have misunderstood your letter size, you may need less material but
probably would need to order at least 5 yards as a minimum.
You can ask for Val when you call. She was very helpful. She gave me
permission to post her name in the answer and to post the company and
address as I have done.
I hope the children enjoy your project.

avril: I have called a few sandpaper suppliers (800 numbers) and found that the width you wish about 15.5inches is not a standard width and will require custom ordering which is quite expensive and requires quite a large order. I have another contact in Wyoming to check tomorrow. The most common size, of course, is 8 1/2 x 11 in sheets which probably are not sufficient to your needs and are available in Home Depot in any grit you choose. I'll check the source tomorrow which may have 36" wide by 10 yards in length...and get back to you... seedy |
