What are the opportunities for employment for a dual national-(US citizen/German citizen by marriage)- in the Munich Germany area for locating underground utility lines? I have 17 years experience locating underground telephone, gas, electric, CATV, water, in the USA. Who locates the lines in the Munich area? The utility companies who own them, or is the work outsourced? I am looking to possibly relocateto the Munich area in 2007. Thank you. |

German citizenship cannot be acquired simply by marriage to a German citizen, but perhaps I have misunderstood your statement. As the spouse of a German, a resident permit will be fairly automatic. http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/WillkommeninD/LernenUndArbeiten/ArbeitenInDeutschland/ArbeiteninD.html#t1 |

Thank you. This-marriage-is something I'm currently reseaching. (I did receive a reply to this concern, stating that marraige will "make" both partners dual citizens of both countries.) My question though relates to how I might be able to apply my underground locating skills in the Munich area. |

Greetings, As said, I doubt the source that says that marriage alone will grant both partners citizenship in the other country (I am a US citizen married to a German and living in Germany.) I was hoping that Scriptor-ga would respond to your other question about underground locating. From my layman's view of the subject, having lived in Germany for many years, I have the impression that the utilities keep pretty good records of where their underground lines are located, certainly in built-up areas. As you probably know, zoning codes in Germany are strict and restrictive, thus there is not much construction nor many utility lines that don't follow established roads/streets. My local gas company constantly patrols, "sniffing" with probes for leaks, obviously sure where its lines are. Just a layman's impression. |
