There was a song I used to hear on Triple J Radio in the late
nineties, early 2000s, in the morning on Adam and Wil's breakfast show
and I am trying to find out what it was called and who it was by.
Basically it was a sort of acid-jazz number with a woman singing vocals.
It could have been a remake of an older song or a sample of the vocals.
The lyrics that I remember - probably the chorus - were along the lines of:
"I hate to say I told you so
(But I told you so)
...hate to say I told you so
(But I told you so)
What you reap
Is what you sow
What goes around comes around
Now you know
I hate to say I told you so."

I have tried googling the lyrics in various combinations. What
normally comes up is the Hives song, "Hate to Say I told you So" and
that's definitely not it.

One more thing - I said I used to listen to the question on Triple J -
that's a radio station in Australia, but I don't think the song was
Australian. It didn't sound especially Australian!

Is this the song you remember?

"Now there's one thing I wanna say, hey, yeah
You'll meet a guy who'll make you pay
He'll treat you bad and make you sad
And you will lose the love you had
Oh, but I hate to say I told you so, but
Baby, you gotta gotta reap what you sow
But it's all right all right girl
You are payin' now, but it's all right
So goodbye, now, goodbye, girl
You're payin' now, say bye-bye
You hurt me once, you hurt me twice
Oh, but-a baby, that don't cut no ice
Hey, goodbye, baby"

This song has been recoreded by several people but the original artist
was J.J. Jackson. The song title is: 'But It's Alright'

Thank you so much for your suggestion.
I have listened to 'But It's Alright' on iTunes and that's definitely not it.
Sorry!
The song I'm looking for definitely had the line "What goes around
comes around now you know"

I also checked out Depeche Mode and that's not it either.
Thanks anyway.

Monkey 7: Reap What You Sow

This might be it.
The drummer is a girl.
Hope this helps.

I think I have a copy of the song on a mix I have. Lyrics are as follows:

Doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo

Excuse the smirk on my face
I find it hard to erase
When you said, you said you were leaving
Wasn't funny at the time
But I knew baby in my mind
was yourself that you where deceiving.

Didn't I tell you, you'd be coming back
Didn't I tell you, I ain't having that, no, no
Now you wanna come on back to me
Talking about the way it used to be now

I hate to say I told you so
(But I told you so)
...hate to say I told you so
(But I told you so)
What you reap
Is what you sow
What goes around comes around
Now you know
And I hate to say I told you so.

What we had was bonafide
Saw green grass from the other side
Then you said you said you were leaving
I feel a cliche coming on
don't know a good thing when its gone
Well so long but who you deceiving

Didn't I tell you, you'd be coming back
Didn't I tell you, I ain't having that, no, no
Now you wanna come on back to me
Talking about the way it used to be

Anyone have any further ideas?

Hi nimiety, I heard the song on a mixcast by the Phatplastic DJs at
the Winchester Pub in Angel Islington, London (check
http://www.phatplastic.com/ its on Shealan's Red Bull Mix starts at
about 17:30)

The track is apparently by The Freestylers (funnily enough called
"Hate to Say I Told You"). Unfortunately they say it was an
unreleased CD promo not generally available. If you have any luck
getting hold of it please let me know! I'm not audacious enough to
ask DJs for their hard earned beatz

Interesting coincidence that I have been trying to figure out what
song a similar line came from and when I entered it in Google, this
discussion came up. I remember it as "YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I hate, to say
I told you so, but I told you so". Seems like Mose Allison.
