You might find it useful to consult some of the perennial reference books on the subject such as "2006 CHILDREN'S WRITERS & ILLUSTRATORS MARKET" edited by Alice Pope or "BOOK MARKETS FOR CHILDREN'S WRITERS 2006" by Marni McNiff. These references (or other like them) should be available to you from your favorite bookstore, online bookseller, or library, and should give you some insight into how the world of children's publishing works. |

I recommend The Writer's Guide to Book Editors, Publishers, and Literary Agents, because (unlike other books) it not only names editors and what subject matter they focus on, it often gives more in-depth info on them that can be useful in crafting query letters. Always, however, be sure to call the publishing house and ask if the editor is still working with the company. Kriswrite |

If I were you i would take a look at som children's books simmilar, but not the same as yours. If a publisher is already running a serries very much like your own, they probably will not be interested. Also look at the format of books the publisher works with. Most children's books are 16 or 36 pages, (The printing machienes are made this way,) If your book isn't something that they can print, they wont. SOmething that might help is to suggest you are willing to help promote your book.(visit schools, libraries, book signings). The writter's market is a great sourse for a list of publishers, i would start with it. If all else fails, try printing at a local press with a one year contract, and REALLY promote locally, or print it yourself with a print on demand shop (google print on demand for a list) it really isn't that expensive, and you only have to sell 1000 copies to become a best seller, then the publishers will be happy to talk to you. (Public schools average 600 kids, whose parents will usually give them a few dollars for 'school things" like this, just don't try to get rich off these initial sales---wait till you are really published. I hope this helps |
