My husband and I broke our lease one year ago due to unsafe living
environment. Our car was broken into on the premises. Being pregnant
and coming home from work late at night a male was being arrested. I
had to be escorted to my apartment. Other tenants homes were broken
into and finding mold in our closet. We gave a thirty day notice and
payed $905 for the month we had lived there but ended up moving two
weeks earlier. We were asked to pay a termination fee of $1810 but felt
that because of the above circumstances we were not obligated to pay
that fee. Our lease was broken april 16,2005 and was bound to us until
september 30,2005. due to our departure of our apartment it was rented
out two weeks later. We did not receive our deposit back of $442.50
and our now being asked to pay $515.76.
we feel that our obligation to our apartment was fulfilled. Due you
feel that we are obligated to pay the $515.76?

Depending on jurisdiction (where ya at?), a landlord could reasonably
expect to be compensated for the time the apartment is empty and
marginal costs incurred renting it. The landlord would be expected to
be diligent in finding a tenant.

A total of $958 sounds reasonable to flip an apartment, between the
two weeks empty, cleaing costs, advertising, etc.

You do not make clear when the apartment was rented, saying, "Our
lease was broken April 16, 2005," and "we gave a thirty day notice
and... ended up moving two weeks earlier" and "due to our departure of
our apartment it was rented out two weeks later." It seems you paid
for the month of April and left on 16 April, correct? If so, was the
apartment rented on 1 May 2005 or was it about 15 May 2005?

we paid for the month of april correct and left april 16 given them
two weeks of paid rent to find a tentent. The apartment was rented out
on may 1,2005. so if I'm correct they can not recieve double rent.
I had complecations with my pregnacy do you think it could come from
the mold that we found in our closet?

The mold question is totally separate from the lease question you have asked above.
