hey, there
well, I pretty much ignored your last suggestion on the 'bored with
the web' question (sorry) mainly because I hadn't gotten Firefox yet,
and couldn't get onto stumbleupon.com. .
now that I'm up to speed, I've signed up, and it's really alot of fun
. . . thank you!
problem is, I'm getting emails from other stumbleupon members who want
me to rate their sites, strike up a conversation, be friends, etc. .
Some are intriguing, some are not . . . but I'm completely lost as
to how to interact with members, and I find SU's help menu and FAQs
singularly unhelpful. Also it looks like maybe 90% of the members are
20-somethings; do you think that's true? Is it possible to search
for members by age, location, interests?
Any other intriguing corners of this network that you know of?
any thoughts appreciated . . .

Hi ts...
Actually, I didn't know the StumbleUpon toolbar even worked with
Firefox. I thought you had to have IE to use it.
Additionally, I'm as confused as you are by the social networking
aspects of SU, and was equally frustrated in my brief attempts to
understand more. I subsequently opted to use it only to explore
new and interesting sites, and to effectively bookmark sites by
clicking the "thumbs up" when on a site I like. This adds it to
a page which you can access by clicking on My Favorite Sites in
the toolbar menu.
I'm inclined to agree that the majority of users seem to be in
the 20-something range, which, for me, is another reason to
ignore the social networking aspects.
Perhaps someone else will be better informed in this regard, or
more willing to explore it.
