Dear Minmin11,

"The stunt pocket watch used by double Oscar winner Tom Hanks for his
role in Robert Zemekis' Castaway. Made from a dense rubber this
detailed and very key prop was used in the action scenes of the movie
to avoid damage to the real watch and an expensive actor. Hanks
constantly looks at his pocket watch throughout the film and although
this version does not open up it is still a very important piece.
Displayed with a COA from Fox, an engraved plaque and a photo of hanks
with the stunt watch. Overall size of the display is 45 x 35 cm."

Dear minmin11-ga;

Here?s an excerpt from the Castaway movie script at the point that
Helen Hunt?s character presents Tom Hank?s character the watch you are
referring to:

TOM HANKS: Oh, my.

HELEN HUNT: My granddaddy used it on the Southern Pacific.

TOM HANKS: I'm always going to keep this on Memphis time.

HELEN HUNT: Merry Christmas.

TOM HANKS: I love you.

HELEN HUNT: I love you too.

If you are wondering what a Railroad watch is and how this differs
from the average pocket watch, read this article:

Just What Is A Railroad Watch?
http://www.pockethorology.org/Railroad/Railroad.htm

The watch in the movie (or the watch the prop depicted) could easily
have been one of any number of the many railroad watches made. Judging
from the shape a design of the fob, the watch could very well have
been a something similar to a Waltham-Ball or a Hamilton, but this is
speculative and we will probably never know for certain.

Does this answer your question as well as possible under the circumstances?
