Hi pelkeyrobyn: The following is the solution to your problem with explanation of the steps: Original question: x + 3x + 3x/2 = 660 Add up the multiples of x that don't have fractions: 4x + 3x/2 = 660 Express each term on the left in the same denominator, 2: 8x/2 + 3x/2 = 660 Add terms on left: 11x/2 = 660 Multiply both sides of equation by 2: 11x = 1320 Divide both sides by 11: x = 1320/11 Put result into lowest terms: x = 120 Check the result in the original question: 120 + 3(120) + 3(120)/2 = 120 + 360 + 360/2 = 120 + 360 + 180 = 660 Bingo! Hope this helps you solve other similar questions on your own! :-) websearcher-ga Search Strategy: I didn't use any to solve you problem, but if you do the following search: high school algebra ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=high+school+algebra you get links to many useful sites for help in this area. |
