I need a short list of potential consultants to my small consulting
firm. We consult with federal organizations, but we are too small to
have our own
contracting expert on board. We mostly work with the military, and we
need someone we can call occasionally to help us thread our way
through the vagaries of contracting with the government.

face2face-ga,

Before searching out an appropriate consultant, I want to ask if
you've made use of the government's own services in this regard?

Almost all US government agencies have services to assist small
businesses in negotiating the contracting maze. There are even
mentoring programs, where Uncle Sam will hook up a small business with
a mentor -- often a retired business person in the same general
business area as yourself -- to guide you through the process.

These are probably your best starting points -- especially the mentors
-- before trying to hook up with a fee-based consultant.

Just checking...let me know your thoughts.

pafalafa-ga: We haven't done that, and don't really know where to
start for that. If you can source that, and well as private
consultants, I would be most appreciative. Out problem: the military
brass we're working with often hasn't got a clue what "contracting
vehicles" would be appropriate, or what the rules are. A resource we
could tap, as needed, would be quite useful.
