Hello Everyone, I'm a total newbie to this form of google, and I'm not
sure what the proper fee would be for this question, so please advice
if you like.

The reason for my question is as follows:
I moved in with my best friend and his wife to an apartment in
Atlanta, GA. 6 months later, our religious differences seem to be
causing a problem that they are unable to get around. In short, I
didn't end up going to their church, like they had hoped (as I have my
own), and they feel we must separate. Contrary to many conversations
witnessed by my mother and others, they will tell you the reason for
moving out is not religious reasons. Thus I don't believe crying
discrimination will have any affect as they will pull another reason
from the hat.

The end result is that we have both decided to move. I must move
because I cannot afford the rent alone, or even with my sister. I am
in a wheelchair and have a spinal cord injury and I don't feel
comfortable living with just anyone as I'm in a more vulnerable
position. Even my best friend has proven to be unstable, thus I turn
to my family who has yet to let me down. Currently we both have sought
out new places of residence and they are in search of someone to take
over our lease. All three of us are on the lease thus we all have the
responsibility should the lease be abandoned.

The two options I have are:
They have agreed to pay the rent for July and I am able to stay here
until August 1st as my new apartment is able to hold it that long for
me. They are in the process of finding a tenant that can take over the
lease when I leave, as they are leaving on June 11th. My second option
is that I leave on July 1st and they find someone by then which would
relieve them of paying the July rent, but I've asked them to pay part
of the rent at my new apartment as I am unable to afford it until
August when my sister comes back into town. So they would actually
save money because my sisters half is not as expensive as their half
of the current(old) apartment. However, if they do not find a renter
by July 1st, they will not have the money to pay for all three
apartments (their new one, our old one, and part of my new one). I
must make a decision for my new apartment so they know if I'm coming
July 1st or August 1st.

My question:
In a conversation that took place earlier today, my friends wife said
casually, "maybe we can just tell the leasing office that we aren't
going to pay anymore." While I don't know her seriousness, I am still
uneasy about this whole situation. (1)I am wondering what course of
action I might have against them if they should abandon the lease.
(2)I'm also wondering what I can do to get out of the lease should I
feel they are about to abandon it and leave it for the collectors. I'm
aware that if you do this, you will most likely not be able to rent
again or at least for a very long time and I have good credit, etc.
and have no desire for this to happen. I also heard in passing from
someone else that I can claim they are threatening me which will allow
me to legally exit the lease?

Thank you all, and sorry for being long winded. I've been under a lot
of stress as finding an apartment that is wheelchair friendly is
really hard to do. Not to mention being near public transit.
