I had a quote from Akamai recently, requesting streaming figures in this region.
They were very helpful and responsive, compiling a document suitable
for pushing up to senior managers in charge of budgets (the load would
have taken up about 80% of our outgoing bandwidth for web services).
You'll be asked to sign and fax them back an NDA before processing to
the quote.
I'm about 80=90% certain they can do real player streaming on demand,
though I think the majority of their service may be in the
MP3/AAC/MP4/WMV space for windows media video and apple iTunes videos.
However your definition of 'reasonable' will vary from any others
often by an order of magnitude. I would expect most competent service
providers to ask for an initial up-front [setup] cost of say $1500
region then about half that for your stated bandwidth, as a ballpark
figure. It depends on the expected growth in your streaming content
delivery I suppose, there's no fixed answer.
The only way to do this though is to ask around for competitive
quotes. As I said, I asked Akamai cause I know the level of streaming
capacity they have is extraordinary - perhaps take a look at their
