Boyce, Since you have indicated your interest in persons who may be descendents, this German telephone website list 300 + Manteuffel, some with "von", a couple as "Baron", suggesting that they are more close descendents, or more interested in showing their title. http://www.telefonauskunft.de/search.php?qid=1&page=1&sid=a9tq9pvaeuqkib9qp580png9i5&sort=&filter= Baron = Freiherr is a title that many who could use it eschew in these times. It is a nice thought to return the baton to an interested member of the family, but if this is an altruistic gesture - just wanting to recover your cost or a modest price to return the item to someone with a personal interest - I think that you should be aware that the baton could have a higher value in the German market for "Militaria". That is, someone you might offer the baton to, could turn around and sell it. Here is a a site that deals in German Militaria and possibly could give you an idea of the market for the baton. There are, of course, many other places and websites for militaria. I hope, however, that one of the Researchers can direct you to a direct descendent of Edwin von Manteuffel. |
