Question ID: 737776
I would like to copy a lot of my CDs to my Ipod but do not want to
keep the music on my hard drive after I have downloaded it to the Ipod
- not enough room for all the CDs I have. Can I do that, and if so,
how?

Couldn't you get an external hard drive to store all those music
files, basically just moving your music library to some external
storage device?

you could do it in batches.
what I mean by this is rip say 10 cds to the hard drive, then copy
them to the ipod, then delete the songs from the computer.
*to do this you have to go to ipod preferences, then to music (or
something like that) and click manually manage songs. otherwise, it
will delete the songs from the ipod when you delete them from the
comp.
also with this setting you will have to use copy-paste or drag and
drop to manually get the songs on the ipod

I have had the same problem also. My solution to the problem was to
upload all of the songs on my computer, put then on my ipod then
delete them off my computer. Then if i ever want them back on my
computer there is software called copypod (http://www.copypod.net)
that will extract the songs back onto your computer and into your
iTunes libary if you wish to burn them to a CD or anything else that
may require you to have the MP3.
