The greatly admired and respected G-A Researcher Pinkfreud-ga has commented elsewhere that she "researchers" fulltime, but I doubt that she considers it or recommends doing so as a career. Here is what the FAQs say about becoming a Researcher: "How do I sign up to become a Researcher? Because of an overwhelming response by qualified candidates, we are temporarily not accepting additional applications. Please check back with us again, as we likely will begin accepting applications again in the near future." |

Pinkfreud also commented on the very low pay of being a researcher. It would clearly be a fun job (as many of us lowly commenters do a substandard job of it for free), but the money won't support a family. |

Folks who want to be Google Answers Researchers may be dazzled by the sight of the fees, without taking into account the many hours of unpaid labor that is spent trolling for answerable, fairly-priced questions. Yesterday, for example, I spent slightly more than nine hours at my desk. Most of this time was spent pressing the F5 key while staring at the monitor. Refreshing the screen endlessly, trying to grab a good question before someone else gets it, isn't particularly interesting, and a day's work at GA sometimes results in no income whatsoever. |

Pink, I find your comment hard to buy as a whole. Why do you remain a researcher if the money is bad and you don't enjoy it? |

Jack, I have a chronic illness and seldom leave my home. It's difficult to find jobs with no fixed deadlines that can be done while lying in bed. I can think of one other, but I lack the bodily qualifications for that one. ;-) I didn't mean to imply that there is nothing enjoyable about being a Google Answers Researcher. There are lots of things that I love about this job. But people who expect to be able to earn a living wage here are likely to be disappointed. ~Pink |

Sorry to hear about the chronic illness Pink. Too bad the other occupation doesn't quite fit, I hear there is good money in that line of work :) I'm glad to hear that you do enjoy alot of aspects of your job, that is quite important. I can name quite a few of us wannabe researchers who enjoy a lot of the same perks without any pay. Hard to find these crazy websites that just suck you in (in a good way) and happen to benefit society in some way... Way to go Google Answers! |

Pink, I agree with Jack - except that I very much prefer your being a G-A Researcher. If I may say so, sometimes it seems to me that you are too modest in that you post answers as mere comments, such as to the question about "very fun". I expect that your personal standards in such cases would call for a more detailed answer than you want "invest" for the price, but from this side of the monitor it looks like you pass on some quickies. Don't bother to explain, just hit the F5 key, and I hope you find a juicy question! Regards, Myo |

Other then the fact that GA is not accepting new Researchers, I was hoping that I "could make" a living giving answers. My knowledge is mainly in the PC Hardware&Software Problem Shooting department. I know that people want answers to their problems, but from the comments you people have posted it seems that I will be spending more than 14 hours a day on the monitor and not making enough to pay for my coffee!
